Boomerstock began as a project of the Office on Aging and Older Adult Ministry at Discipleship Ministries (an agency of the United Methodist Church) in 2016. It originated as a Colloquium to explore how to engage with the Retirees and Baby Boomers, who largely are unchurched, to learn from experts in Boomer Engagement how best to minister with Boomers as a church. We explored what could be learned from Advertising and Marketing, from those in Retirement Services like AARP and other business organizations whose clientele are Boomers. We met with Demographers, and leading Sociologists to learn what makes Boomers tick. We looked at what we could discover about the different types of Boomers, including Black Boomers and Women Boomers. We focused upon SBNRs, the Spiritual but Not Religious Boomer and what they were seeking.
The name Boomerstock was chosen after of the influential and iconic Woodstock Music Festival, which became movement which lead to protests and the end of the Vietnam War. Boomerstock was also a play on words-- BOOMER + STOCK, meaning to suggest the movement would lead to the re-stocking of our churches with formerly low participation and unchurched Boomers, drawn to the services including Spiritual Community and to encourage our churches to place a renewed emphasis upon Boomer Evangelism and Aging Ministries
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
